This is your reminder to set your clocks and hour back on Sunday, November 2 for daylight savings! Daylight savings time gives us more time to enjoy the cooler weather and beautiful scenery as we go into Fall.
This event originated over 100 years ago. It was implemented during World War I, in 1918. During the war, it was used to help conserve power and fuel and extend the workday. Less fuel would be burned during the daylight hours rather than the night. By implementing daylight savings, this gave workers the opportunity to burn less fuel and extend the ability to work during the day. In 1918, the Standard Time Act was put in place to establish the time change and the nation’s official time zones. After WWI, congress revoked daylight savings time but was re-established in 1942 during WWII. In 1945, this event was repealed once again.
Since that time, there have been many more changes and acts passed that have formed the way Americans can save energy.
Daylight savings is much more than just an extra hour. The history behind it helps us understand why it’s necessary.
