The current school calendar consists of a long school year and a steady summer break. A year-round schedule can be beneficial and while it would increase operational costs for school systems it would help teachers and students function better.
The long period of school can cause students and teachers to get burnt out and grades to decrease. If a teacher is burnt out then they can not teach and educate to the best of their abilities causing it to be harder for students to learn. This goes for students as well, when they get burnt out they can not learn as well and tend to lose interest and work less hard.
Year-round schooling will also decrease the amount of time you use at the start of the school year on review. Students tend to forget a good amount of the information they learned over the summer and teachers
