The definition of cyberbullying is when the practice of someone sending messages or creating social media content mocking and making jokes about a person or a group. Cyberbullying is most common in teenagers, but what are the statistics?
According to the Pew Research center, “59% of teens have been harassed online” which is more than any other type of bullying. Many teens say they’ve been called names and constantly harassed online. Which has led to 7% getting sent explicit images from others. A lot of teens agree, parents tend to handle the issue of cyberbullying more seriously, than teachers, politicians, and the social media companies themselves.
Many kids also remain a victim to cyberbullying from sites like Instagram and Tiktok, but also Reddit and Discord. Yet, their companies do nothing to prevent this. The issue of social media access is another one that is often left to the parents.
