Music is a part of our everyday lives, it practically invades every aspect of existence, in the store, in the car, while scrolling endlessly, which makes it likely you’ve heard of the internet diva known as Hatsune Miku. Being the internet pop star especially in Japan isn’t difficult for her, especially when she isn’t technically real. Hatsune Miku is technically known as a vocal synth or VSynth for short, being originally created by Yamaha and fully owned by Crypton Future Media, her voice sings for those who can’t.
Created in 2007, and first song published August 31st of that year, giving birth to the iconic diva we know and love. However her voice came from a japanese woman named Saki Fujita, who at the time didn’t know the fame that would come from this. The name Hatsune Miku means the “first sound” or “sound of the future” after this many of her most iconic songs were born such as Melt, World is Mine, and Rolling Girl, these all were created by different producers or Voca-P as they are often called.
Hatsune Miku started making her way into modern media towards the beginning of the pandemic, when songs like Rabbit Hole, Mesmerizer, and Magical Cure Love Shot were released. As people began to realize you could tune her voice in a variety of languages, English vocaloid songs began to appear, which sprung her to popularity in the states, eventually Miku got herself well known enough to begin hosting Miku Expo in a variety of locations around the world.
She has brought smiles and joy to many people during hardship, with that single sound of hers, she can be easily recognized by a variety of people. Her music, despite varying in style depending on the creator has saved lives no doubt, and has led to people having the courage to take a step and make their own music, making her truly, “the sound of the future.”
