On May 2 the CDC got a report that a Hantavirus outbreak had occurred on a cruise ship in the Atlantic. After the report the World Health Organization confirmed that the type of virus was “Andes” virus. Which is the type to lead to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which attacks the lungs severely causing death. This virus is contracted through rodent urine, droppings, and saliva. This strand of Hantavirus is the only strand that can be passed person to person whether through direct contact, prolonged timed spent with infected person, through the persons spit, respiratory secretion, or other bodily fluids.
The symptoms of Hantavirus are fatigue, fever, body aches, headaches, dizziness, chills, and nausea. Although there is no direct cure for this illness there are ways for patients to receive supportive care for their symptoms.
Although this virus is a risk, it is not as severe as Covid-19. Travel can continue as normal as CDC is on top of this spread.
