Social media is typically a big part of a teenagers day. Apps like snapchat, instagram, and tiktok help teenagers connect with each other and stay up to date on trends. This can cause an obsession or mental health issues. Teenagers will compare themselves with others and have unrealistic expectations of how to be. The constant comparison can lead to insecurities and make teens have depression or anxiety.
Reducing exposure to social media for younger people can be very beneficial if improving mental health and letting kids be kids for longer. A lot of times kids are given phones when not necessary, and before they are even teenagers. The sooner social media and electronics are introduced to kids the more detrimental it can be and kids will become reliant on it.
Today many social events are replaced by electronics. For example, instead of meeting up, teens tend to just text or call. This can stunt the development of social interactions and lessen people’s ability to adapt to new situations and is overall unnecessary at younger ages.
