Spring Sports End of Season Recap

Savannah Forkey, Staff Reporter

The spring sports season has come to an end with teams playing there final regular season games last week. All of the varsity teams will be playing in the regional tournament with hopes of making it to states. Let’s take a look at how each team has done this season.

Starting with baseball and softball, both Jv and varsity teams maintained a winning record throughout the season. Jv baseball finished out their season with a game against Cosby and have a final record of 9-8. Jv softball has had a great season and they will end the season with a record of 12-3. Both these teams had outstanding seasons!

Varsity baseball finishes out their regular season with a record of 13-6 making them 6th in the region and getting them a spot in the regional tournament. Varsity softball has also had a great regular season finishing with a record of 13-5 and 4th in the region. They have also earned a spot in the regional tournament that begins this week

Next let’s talk about soccer. Boys Jv and varsity have both done pretty well this season. Boys Jv unfortunately will not end the season with a winning record, but they have still had a good season with many close, hard fought games. They will finish their season with a record of 4-7-3. Varsity boys had many difficult match ups this season, but still secured a decent record of 8-8 which makes them 6th in the region and earns them a spot in the regional tournament.

Girls Jv and varsity soccer both had decent seasons. Jv girls had a record of 6-6-1 and were evening matched with most of their opponents this season. Varsity girls ended their regular season with a record of 6-9 which wasn’t what they hoped for, but will still secure them a place in the regional tournament as they are ranked 9th in the region.

Next up is lacrosse. Boys Jv had a rough season with a young team but saw improvement throughout the season. They ended their season with a record of 2-7. Boys Varsity had a pretty good season finishing 5th in the region with a record of 7-5. They will make the regional tournament.

Girls Jv and Varsity lacrosse both had great seasons. Both teams finished with winning records, Jv with a record of 7-6-1 and varsity with a record of 12-3. Variety was ranked 2nd in the region to finish the season and will play their first round regional game at home as a result.

Finally we have tennis. Both the girls and boys teams finished with records of 7-8, girls were ranked 9th in the region and boys were ranked 7th, and unlike the rest of the spring sports teams regionals began last week for tennis.

Girls took on Monacan in the first round and took home the win to advance to quarter finals. They lost a tough one against Courtland to end their season. The boys took on Patrick Henry in their first round of regionals and defeated them to move on to the quarter finals where they also faced Courtland. The boys defeated Courtland and advanced to the semifinals where they faced Hanover. They unfortunately lost to Hanover ending their region run as a team. Both the girls and boys have regionals for singles this week.
