This year, many exhilarating movies will be released. With COVID regulations lifting, the movie industry is bouncing back from years of limited movie production. From thrilling sequels, to live action recreations, to even some popular throwbacks making their long awaited comeback, this packed lineup does not disappoint! 

 

February:

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania 

This Marvel franchise, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jonathan Majors, and Bill Murray, is making its reappearance on February 17 when the third installment in this comedy and action packed series hits the big screen.

March:

Creed III 

This Rocky spinoff, starring Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, and Phylicia Rashad, is coming out on March 3, 2023.

Scream VI 

Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Hayden Panettiere, Courtney Cox, Samara Weaving, and Tony Revolori star in the 6th installment of this popular thriller series opening March 10.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods 

On March 17, the superhero Shazam returns to the big screen with his newly empowered family. This long awaited sequel features Zachary Levi, Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, Jack Dylan Grazer, Asher Angel, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, and Megan Good.

John Wick: Chapter 4

This blockbuster, action series is premiering, on March 24, its fourth film in the series, starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

On March 31, this popular role playing fantasy game is getting a reboot starring Chris Pine, Hugh Grant, Regé-Jean Page, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sophia Lillis.

April:

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 

This beloved, classic game and iconic characters are getting a new life in this film starring Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, and Keegan-Michael Key. Opening on April 7, this adaptation is sure to give a different perspective into this well known Nintendo Universe.

May:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klmentieff, Will Poulter, and Elizabeth Debicki re-enter or enter into the Marvel Universe for the the third film in this series opening May 5.

Fast X

The Fast and Furious franchise is making its reappearance on May 19 starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Ludacris, and Nathalie Emmanuel.

The Little Mermaid

Halle Bailey is starring as the Princess Ariel in the live action recreation of The Little Mermaid. This iconic adaptation is opening on May 26 and will also star Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs, and Awkwafina.

June:

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 

Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, and Issa Rae star in another adaptation of the fan favorite friendly neighborhood spiderman on June 2.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts 

On June 9, Ron Perlman, Anthony Ramos, Peter Cullen, Dominique Fishback, and Luna Lauren Velez star in the newest movie in the Transformers franchise.

The Flash

On June 23, the DC superhero universe will star Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Billy Crudup, and Michael Keaton in their newest film.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Indiana Jones is back! On June 30, Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, and Boyd Holbrook all star in this adaptation that fans have been longing for since 2008.

July:

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part One

On July 14, Tom Cruise(in his 27th year of playing Ethan Hunt), Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, and Esai Morales all star in the 7th adaptation in this series of movies. 

Oppenheimer 

Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, and Benny Safdie all star in this film about the “father of the atomic bomb”, J. Robert Oppenheimer. This film opens on July 21.

The Marvels 

This sequel to Captain Marvel is one of the five films being released by the Marvel franchise this year. On July 28, Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, and Samuel L. Jackson hit the big screen.

Barbie

On July 21, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling become the living versions of Barbie and Ken, where we are taken into the life of the most famous doll in the world.

September:

The Nun 2 

On September 8, Bonnie Aarons stars in the sequel to the 2018 horror film The Nun.

October:

Kraven the Hunter

Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as one of the superhero Spiderman’s classic villains on October 6.

November:

Dune: Part Two 

This sequel will open exclusively in theaters on November 3, unlike the first film in this series releasing on HBO Max. This film will star Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stellan Skarsgård as this storyline progresses.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

On November 17, this prequel based on the popular series of novels, hits the big screen and will star Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Tom Blyth, and Jason Schwartzman.

December:

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

On Christmas day, the DC superhero Aquaman returns in an action packed sequel. This film is said to be starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Temuera Morrison.

 

While these are just some of the films hitting the big screen this year, the theaters are sure to be filled with fans from every genre in the cinematic world. So “Let’s all go to the lobby… “, grab your popcorn, and get ready to escape to a place of adventure, mystery, wonder, fantasy, or even horror.
