Powhatan County Fair

Powhatan+County+Fair

Starting Friday, May 10th through Sunday, May 12, Powhatan will have its Annual County Fair. This marks the 105th Annual Fair for Powhatan County.

The fair was founded in 1919 making it one of the oldest first in Virginia. This fair was started to showcase agricultural achievements, demonstrate new products and provide a social entertainment venue.

Powhatan County Courthouse records state an interesting history of these fair grounds. During the time of segregation, these grounds were deeded to trustees for use and benefit of the colored people of Powhatan, Virginia.

Today, the fair is managed by the Powhatan County Fair Association. This is a non-profit organization which is run by volunteers. Membership and events are open to all citizens.

As the years go on the tradition of this fair still goes on and continues to bring in the local community. People from all over the county come with friends, family, and neighbors for a night of fun.

This year will not disappoint with rides, vendors, shows, many other attractions, as well as fireworks on Friday night. Tickets can be purchased on the website with a five dollar discount up until May 10th. The fair is open from 5pm- 11pm on Friday, 1pm- 11pm Saturday, and on the final day Sunday 1pm-6pm

Hailey Ragland is a sophomore at Powhatan high school and is part of the class of 2026. This is her first year in journalism and is really looking forward to it. Outside of school, Hailey enjoys playing volleyball and hopes to attend a four year college and play volleyball. Hailey is an active member in the PHS community she is part of class council and SGA as well as taking part in many clubs. She feels the news is important because it is important people are informed about what is going on in the world around them.
