PHS Boys Soccer

PHS+Boys+Soccer

Powhatan Boys Soccer is off to a rough start with only one win, five losses, along with two ties. This team though is very young with them losing 8 Seniors last year.

These 8 Seniors last year made up the core of their team, many of them making up most of the playing time during the game. These seniors were Angel Cedillo, Shaw Stancil, Austin Whitlock, Colton Hiatt, Paul Boner, Connor Nickerson, Cole Whiting, and Fischer Daniels. Their record that year was 8-10 with an 8-8 record in the region.

The Powhatan Soccer program has not had a strong showing since the 2021- 2022 Spring Season in which they went onto the Regional Tournament. That year they had Senior, Parker Sloan, who went on to be a Soccer Commit at UVA.

During the summer, the boys team combined with the girls to host a soccer camp for kids which took place June 26-29 as well as July 10-13. This was a chance for the team to give back to their community through a sport they love by teaching kids skills and essentials of teamwork.

Preseason had begun on November 20 which was their first winter conditioning with more every week up until tryouts. Tryouts for the boys took place February 19-21.

Their first game was against Clover Hill on March 12th which ended in a tie 0-0. They also had their first Home game against Hanover that same week which was an unfortunate loss 2-0. Their first win of the season was on the road against L.C. Bird with a win 5-2.

They have had some tough competition facing many teams within their region with strong teams such as Midlothian, Cosby, and James River.

Their 3 captains, two Seniors and one Junior are looking to lead this young Powhatan team to more wins. These captains are Connor Bates, Cole Donnelly, and Zach Kinessi.

Though their record does not reflect what they may have hoped for, they still have a whole season ahead of them to get some wins on the board. This team has had many fun times including a trip to Drive Shack. They will continue to grow as the season goes on and improvement is sure to be shown.
