A Year Spent Fighting

Savannah Forkey, Staff Reporter

One year, 365 days, 8,760 hours, or 31,536,000 seconds that is how long it has been since Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday February 24, 2022. Since then nearly 13,000 Russian soldiers, 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers and over 7,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed in the fighting over the last year and those are only the numbers that have been reported.

After a year of tragedy, it seems that they aren’t any closer to a resolution. Ukraine continues to hold their own with weapons and assistance from other western countries while Russia’s plans become more and more ambitious. Many experts warn that this conflict may drag on for years, but only time will tell if both sides can afford to continue their fight.

As they reach this monumental milestone of one year of war, it is hard to believe that we are no closer to a solution. Many worry that this conflict could ultimately result in a confrontation between Russia and NATO, while others fear this war will escalate into a full blown world war.

Regardless of the outcome, the United States continues to support Ukraine in their fight.
