This year at Powhatan the Morgan’s Message club held its first ever May Miles event. This event is held as a way to recognize the life and legacy of Morgan Rodgers. Morgan was an athlete, daughter, friend, sister, and many other things to the world. The foundation for Morgan’s was founded by her family and is a global organization spreading throughout many high schools as well as colleges.
Both Morgan as well as her twin sister, Aberle Rodgers Bridges, were born on May 27th. This being said this event is held during Morgan Rodgers birth month of May.
This event was held on May 3rd at Powhatan high school from 8:30-9:30. This event was open to anyone ranging from teachers, students, athletes, and even any community members. During this event participants within the hour did as many laps around the track to raise money. For each lap completed each person pledged a certain amount to donate. They could walk, run, or even jog, but in the end it was for a good cause.
This was the first year this event was hosted and it was a success! Next year they hope to do it again and get even more peopleĀ involved. In the end Morgan’s message raised around $140 dollars with 210 laps completed which is equivalent to 52.5 Miles.
