Back once again was Mr. Powhatan held on April 18th at Powhatan High School from 7-9pm. This event is held by the PHS Leftovers and was a success once again. Money for tickets were 5 dollars and went towards Relay for Life for the fight against cancer.
This year contestants consisted of: Collin Murray, CT Rich, Jackson Ferris, Nolan Stamp, Alberto Sanna, Matthew Taylor, and Maki Enomoto. Two of these contestants are exchange students at Powhatan high school, Alberto who is from Italy and Maki from Japan. All of these men put time and effort into putting on a show for all who were there with many practices to develop dance routines as well as talents.
Mr. Powhatan has something for everyone! We see them dress up for fashion categories like favorite hobbies, swimwear, and formal attire. We also see them all show off some of their talents. This year’s talents were a wide range of everything we saw hobby horsing, “magic”, karate, dancing, playing the piano, reenactments, and what was supposed to be peaceful meditation. The audience also got to see behind the scenes clips, bloopers, and even dad jokes from contestants throughout their time preparing for the big night. If all this was not already enough the last part of the show was the interview section where each judge asked one contestant a question.
Teachers from Powhatan served as the panel of judges including the first ever Mr. Powhatan winner. It was not only the teachers that determined the winners though the audience also got a vote. We also saw a familiar face in the crowd of many Mr. Miller who originally started this event and ran the leftovers club.
In the end though there could only be one crowned Mr. Powhatan. This years 2025 Mr. Powhatan winner was Alberto Sanna with Nolan Stamp and Maki Enomoto as first and second runner-up. This event takes a lot of time and effort and so many people put a lot into this and for that we thank them for bringing us this fun school event for a good cause.
