On Wednesday May 7, anyone traveling by air of 18 years or older will be required to have a REAL ID.
This could be a state issued driver’s license, an instruction permit or an identification card.
Without any of those or some other acceptable form of identification, individuals will be unable to board any U.S. commercial aircraft.
When this is enforced, people who present a state issued identification that is not a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification will face delays, prolonged screening or not being permitted into the security checkpoint.
To check if you have a Virginian REAL ID it will have a star on the top right corner. If any of your credible forms of Identification are expired you will be permitted to fly for 1 year after the expiration date.
