April 18 is National Velociraptor Awareness Day, where we can learn all about these prehistoric creatures!
This became a national holiday in 2013, 20 years after the first Jurassic Park movie premiered.
The Jurassic Park franchise helped boost this dinosaur’s popularity over the years, however they were not exactly scientifically accurate in these movies.
Dictionary.com describes velociraptors as, “small carnivorous dinosaur of the genus Velociraptor , from the late Cretaceous period, capable of leaping, and growing to a length of about 6 feet (2 meters), having feathers, a flat snout, short forelimbs with large handlike talons, and a large sickle-shaped claw on each foot.”
You can celebrate this fun holiday by researching these fascinating creatures more or even hosting your own dino party! Remember to mark your calendars so you remember for next year!
