On Tuesday five students were injured in a school shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas, Texas.
The suspect in custody is 17-year-old Tracy Denard Haynes Jr, who turned himself in after fleeing. He is now facing four counts of aggravated assault charges.
Haynes was able to bypass the metal detectors by having a student let him in through a side door.
Police have identified the unknown student and are continuing to question them on their involvement. The school has announced that they will be punished for breaking school policy and opening the door for an alleged stranger.
Once Haynes was in the high school he indiscriminately opened fire on a group of students. In total five students ranging in age from 15 to 18 had to be hospitalized, four of them due to gunshot wounds.
According to what Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson told WFAA, the injuries range from non-life-threatening to serious.
In a press release, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, “Our hearts go out to the victims of this senseless act of violence at Wilmer-Hutchins High School.” In addition, Abbott also provided state resources to aid the police during this tragedy.
