On Saturday April 12 Powhatan High school will be hosting its prom. This year’s theme is masquerade which was voted on by junior and senior students. This event will be held from 6pm to 10pm at the Outlook at Saddle Ridge located in Chesterfield County.
This is the second year the event will be held at this venue. Last year it was held at the Outlook due to renovation being done in the previous venue which was the science museum. After last year being a success at this location Powhatan decided to use this venue for a second year.
Unlike homecoming this is an event for upperclassmen only unless they bring a date that is a freshman or sophomore. For seniors this is their last ever school dance so while it is a fun night it is one of many events to bring their time in high school to an end. It is also tradition for seniors on the Monday following prom to skip this is known to many as senior skip day. During this many seniors as can be assumed skip school for the day with friends whether it is to shop, go out to the water, or even just stay home.
Prom is a fun time for many. It does get a little expensive something though. Tickets are no longer on sale, but they were 35 dollars each. During this time girls also go out and get dresses weather in the shops or online, get their nails done, and some even buy flowers. For boys there is not as much that goes into it but they do have to deal with the “promposals” if there is a girl they want to take with them.
As mentioned prom is all about the experience. Just the dance alone is not all that makes it a great time. Students spend the day getting ready together, taking pictures, and even going out to fancy dinners. Prom may not be for everyone, but it is a common event held by many schools everywhere.
