As winter ends and spring comes to a beginning I think it would be a good time to look at maybe the biggest part of our winter year, the snow. As you may know this year we did have a major increase in snowfall, while last year in 2024 snow only hit the ground 1 time on January 19 while there were chances of snow while it was raining a couple days that year such as January 15 and January 6.
While even lower in 2023, during 2025 snow hit and stuck on the ground a total of 4 times on February 20 and the 19, Sometime on January 21 and a little before that on January 10 and 11. Of course there were close calls or wintry storms on days in January and February same as in 2024 and 2023. It was quite the year for snow angels and snowball fights and I can’t wait to see how much in total snowfall we get next year in 2026.
This year was a decent year for snow with its total inches updated on March 14 2025 being 14.8 inches of snow in the Virginia, Maryland and DC area. Compared to Virginia’s worst year for snowfall being at 4 feet of snow back in 1996 during a major blizzard but still more than last year’s total being at 8.5 inches in 2023.
