Utah Governor Spencer Cox plans to sign a bill in the next few days that will ban putting fluoride in public drinking water. Once he passes this legislation it is predicted that fluoride will be officially out of all of the water by early May.
The Cleveland Clinic defines fluoride as a mineral that is naturally found in water, soil, and some foods. Fluoride is put in public water to “strengthen your tooth enamel and reduce your risk of cavities.” The United States started adding this mineral to water sources in 1945.
There is some controversy regarding this issue, with some people believing putting it in all of the water is poisonous and others thinking without it we would all have rotten teeth. To date there is research proving both sides true. However, many healthcare professionals claim that removing the fluoride will cause the amount of cavities and dental problems in Utah to rise significantly.
People are speculating that Utah banning fluoride will cause other states to also ban this mineral. Some cities have already started their bans across the country.
