Bus drivers play a crucial role in transporting students to school safely. Bus drivers are needed primarily for elementary and middle school, but also high school for those not old enough to drive yet or those whose parents do not drive them to school. Those who work for school as a bus driver it is their job to transport students to and from their destination while ensuring students safety. They also must maintain a schedule for pickup and drop off times.
Unfortunately, not only the county, but also the entire U.S. has been facing a shortage of drivers. This problem really sparked when covid 19 occurred leading to many not wanting to take on this job. With this being said Powhatan County is hiring.
Powhatan is in immediate need for drivers including substitutes as well as contracted bus drivers. Paid training is offered in order to obtain a CDL license. Substitute pay is $18.00 an hour and starting full time pay is $20.91 an hour with benefits.
