As the new year approaches Medford league basketball games kick off. Medford league basketball is for the exceptional education students in the Richmond Metro area, the students go head to head in an adaptive basketball game. Medford was created for an opportunity to train and play in a safe and fun environment.
Medford basketball games are very important to the PHS staff and students, because it is a time where they can come together and support their fellow classmates with special needs. Teachers can sign up to come and attend the games during 4th block.
When asking the PHS medford league basketball coach, Mrs.Foos, what she is most excited for this season she said she is excited to see new upcoming students play. The CBI teacher for the PHS special education program; Sara Meade, said she was most excited for students to come and cheer them on. Peer buddies Aleah Burnett and Mackenzie Halfon said, “No matter what team we play there is always inclusivity for everyone no matter the challenge.”
Sara said the positive impact that Medford has on the PHS community is that, “even when the bell rings, people still say hi.” Added onto that, coach Foos says, “Medford promotes a vision for everyone, and makes these students something, allowing these kids to be known by everyone.”
The biggest takeaway they said was kindness and sportsmanship, and that unity brings these students together and watching them grow. Their motto is “we play together” because when one player makes a mistake another player gives them a chance to try again.
Their favorite game day song is “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne, because it was a former players favorite song that passed away last year. When they play this song it reminds them of him and all his hard work he contributed to the team. This song motivated them to play hard, and have fun.
So we encourage everyone to come and support the Medford team this season.
