This season is off to a great start for the Powhatan Boy’s basketball team. They are coached by head coach Brock Geiman and assisted by Austin Washburn, Joshua Forkey, Marcus Carter, and Josh Campbell.
So far this season they are 3-0 with a big dominion district game tonight against the Midlothian Trojans. Their first game was on 12/4 against Cosby which was a big start to their season. This game ended with a win with the score being 49-48. This was also the first time in a while this program had secured a win against the Cosby Titans. In this game Matt Henderson led the scoring with 14 points. Their other two wins were against Spotsylvania and Prince George.
This year the team has 4 seniors: Matt Henderson, Noah Whelan, Chase Connelly, and Jamison Wallace. Along with 8 juniors and the rest underclassmen. Captains for this season are seniors Matt Henderson, Jamison Wallace, Chase Connelly, and junior Evan Sargent.
This year the Powhatan basketball program has high standards. Coach Brock goal for the season is ultimately to get this team to win double digit games which has not been done since the 2007 season. This means they hope to get ten or more wins on their record. This is also a team with lots of toughness as well as resilience.
With this being said the team has put in a lot of work including additional Saturday practices. This is a team with a lot of potential that we hope to see go far.
