Mrs.Finney has been working at Powhatan High School for 27 years and is one of our favored veteran teachers. Finney teaches French on multiple levels, was the senior class sponsor for approximately 30 years, and is overall an amazing person.
Q: When coming into teaching, what did you expect? What was it really like for you?
A: There was more drama than I thought, and the rapid change in rules, technology, and policy was overwhelming.
Q: What was your favorite year of teaching and why?
A: 2009 was my favorite year of teaching because I got to watch my son graduate.
Q: What is one of the craziest moments that stands out in your years of teaching?
A: I never missed a football game from 2006 to 2009 to watch my son play.
Q: What is your favorite part of teaching and why?
A: My favorite part of teaching is the students and watching them grow as people. It makes me happy to be a teacher.
Q: What is one piece of life advice you can give to your students for their future?
A: I would say to follow your heart and dreams and achieve your life goals no matter what.
Finney says she would only drop teaching to take care of family or if she retires. Students at PHS are eternally grateful for this veteran teacher’s knowledge and guidance. She is passionate about teaching her students and shaping them into better people for their future.
