Halloween is right around the corner, and many people are scrambling to think of what to do for Halloween this year. If you’re not one for trick or treating, then there’s a very fun alternative for you. Haunted Trails! The trails range from about a ten minute walk to about thirty minutes of scares. Or laughs if you aren’t one for being frightened and would rather watch your friend scream and run into a tree. With so many here in Virginia, it may be hard to pick one, so we have compiled a list of 3 of the best haunted trails around here!
Creepy Hollow Scream Park!
(14437 Stone Horse Creek Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059)
Creepy Hollow, commonly known as just Creepy in offhand conversation, is a moderately long haunt, depending on the number of groups running through, and such the entire trail can take from thirty minutes to an hour. There is absolutely no tolerance for videos, or photography inside the haunt, it hurts the eyes of the spirits as they say. No flashlights either! The path is rather clear in most areas, and if you stray off, the monsters will happily let you know. The price is around $28 per body; however, you can pick up coupons to reduce the price by around 4$ at any little Caesars in the area, as they are an official sponsor of the event!
From the website itself “Creepy Hollow Scream Park is an intense experience and generally not recommended for small children. We are scary entertainment. Use your own discretion if you choose to allow your children to enter. If you want to bring younger children, be sure your child knows the difference between fantasy and reality. All children (and adults!) have different “scare” tolerances, and you know your child best.” So please keep that in mind if you bring any young siblings or young kids along with you. Reviews online often recommend the place, although some complain actors seem tired near the end of the night. Which makes some sense since they are open from 7:30pm to 11:00 pm. That’s a long time of jumping around and scaring. This attraction is highly recommended. Screams can be heard all the way from the road and it is an absolutely terrifying experience or funny, after all the scare actors might make a little remark here and there to give a laugh if they can’t get a scream! The Website for more information is here Not wheelchair accessible, crutches, and other mobility aids are usable here.
Red Vein (13580 Ashland Rd)
Red Vein is a similar style haunt to Creepy Hollow, long trail through the woods and various other attractions, the haunt is generally around the same length as Creepy and they are actually in the same area generally. However, as many google reviews have mentioned, the wait times are large, some reporting their ticket saying 8:30 to 9:00 entry time, only to truly enter the woods at 10:20. Make sure to prepare for a wait! Or buy the VIP tickets. Generally this haunt is busier than a lot of others and your group may not get the best scare experience because of tight conga lines of people running through. The first group may get scared and then the actor doesn’t have enough time to reset. However that is to be expected with any haunt, don’t worry. Outside of that the reviews sing its praises for miles! Claiming it is one of the best they have been to! There is a warning for claustrophobia and strobing lights. Skip this one if those affect you! Find more information here. This haunt is intense and Children under 8 years of age are NOT permitted, and much like other haunts. No videos, or photos inside. Wheelchair accessible, you just may have to skip a few areas.
Total Terror! (Powhatan FairGrounds)
Do we truly need to even introduce total terror? This is a powhatan news site after all and Total terror is the best known haunt in powhatan, right on our fairgrounds. Children of any age are permitted, with any other spook attraction, please just bring children if you think they can handle it. Meltdowns ruin everyone’s time, not just yours. The haunt itself much like the others is an indoor and outdoor experience, dress for the weather and be prepared to walk. Sadly this is not a fully wheelchair accessible event. 25$ a ticket. The reviews online are sometimes a little suspect, a few seem fake but I can’t verify that; the owners also seem to copy and paste the same message claiming that low reviewers are bullies. According to the positive reviews, it is a terribly scary experience and worth the money! Actors are amazing and the staff very professional. The negative ones speak about poor acting and decor quality, and claim the positive reviews are fake, one even claims that it is a must AVOID. But it’s worth a shot! Website here
