Since 2014, Katmai National Park and Preserve has hosted an annual Fat Bear Week, where people across the world can vote on their favorite bears and decide which bear to crown as the heftiest.
Last year, over 1.3 million votes were cast, and Grazer, also known as Contestant 128, beat her opponent twofold, earning the title as the fattest bear.
Otis is also a definite crowd favorite. He has won the coveted title a whopping 4 times in the past 10 years, undeniably proving his dominance in the competition.
This year’s leading competitors are: Chunk, Grazer, Walker, Bucky, Gully, Competitor 707, Competitor 504, Competitor 519, Competitor 856, Competitor 901, and Competitor 909.
Voting takes place daily, October 2 through 8 from 9am to 6pm Pacific Time. Through this process, the bears are eliminated in brackets. The final victor is decided on October 8. You can find individual biographies for each bear, a Hall of Champions, and much more information on the Fat Bear Week website.
