Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place every October from the 1st the 31st of the month. This month is represented by a pink ribbon making October the month to wear your pink in support.
This month is used to raise awareness about breast cancer in women. Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. About 13 percent of women in the US are said to get breast cancer at some point in their life or about 1 in 8.
Treatments for breast cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, as well as other options depending on severity of the cancer. Over the years due to new treatment options death rates have dropped. We saw a great decline in death rates from 1989 to 2021 with a decline of 42 percent. Unfortunately though in recent years this decline has begun to slow down.
As of January there have been more than 4 million survivors in the US this including those going through treatment. This month is a time to recognize those who have fought through breast cancer or even those fighting it now. During this month consider donating to fundraisers for the cause or even showing up to pink out games to raise awareness.
