Hunting season is around the corner and here are some helpful reminders to keep in mind while you hunt. The season doesn’t officially start until November 16, but Youth Hunting Day is this Saturday, September 28. On Youth Day children 15 and under are allowed to hunt, and kids 12 and under have to have adult supervision. There are multiple places you can go to hunt close to here, for example, the Powhatan Wildlife Management Area and The Old Dominion.
If you don’t want to leave your house, you can hunt on your property as long as you’re more than 100 feet from a building, like your house. The average size of a buck in Virginia is 4 to 6.5 feet in length and 3 to 3.5 feet at the shoulder of the animal. One tip for dropping them dead in their tracks is to get them at the near side shoulder and into the off side of the shoulder. To find out more information on hunting, whether it is about the rules, regulations, or questions you can visit Let’s Go Hunting.

There is also a nice farm that used to be owned by Ray Charles that’s on Three Bridge Road. I’m pretty sure he passed away a year ago but on youth day, you can hunt there. In fact, I just shot a nice spike there Saturday. P.S. I’m 15, so this is for kids between the ages of 4-15.
