The first pep rally of the year has come to a close. Last week PHS had a week full of spirit and fun to prepare for the first home varsity football game of the year.
The days leading up to the pep rally had various spirit days where students and staff brought their best outfits in various themes. Tuesday was pajama day. Wednesday was jersey day where everyone wore outfits supporting their favorite sports teams. Thursday was Adam Sandler day where everyone wore their best baggy clothes. The week ended with neon day where each class wore a different color neon.
The pep rally started with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem performed by Resonance, one of PHS’s award winning show choirs. The Indianettes dance team and the cheerleaders gave awesome performances as well.
Students representing their grades and sports teams competed for a win in two games. Head toes ball was played by students from the fall sports teams where they competed to be the last person left. Taylor Wirt from the volleyball team secured a victory for the Sophomore class.
Next up was the balloon pop game where two students from each class took turns running and trying to pop a balloon in a chair. Whichever class popped all of their balloons first won. It was an action packed game and a chair even got broken. It ended with a victory for the seniors.
All the classes brought their best in the spirit competition. Everyone was getting hype and loud. While everyone did a great job, the seniors claimed the first spirit stick of the year.
The festivities continued into the night where Powhatan faced off against Mechanicsville for the first home game of the season. Powhatan won 46-13. Everyone showed up in their best neon outfits to support the Powhatan Indians.
