Girls Lacrosse at Powhatan High School always has an impressive season. In their 2022- 2023 season they had a 14-5 record and 7-1 record within the region.
These girls put in the work before the season even starts. Preseason workouts start in January and consist of workouts as well as drills to prepare them for tryouts. Tryouts took place on February 19 -21. Since then, this team has been working hard every day after school and even sometimes early morning practices before the school day.
They are five games into their season with a 5-0-1 record with the one tie being to Manchester with a 0-0 score and in the region they are 3-0-1. In the second game of their season, in a win against Cosby, Erica Krauss reached her 100 career goal mark.
So far, they have only had two home games the first one took place on 4/15 against James River which unfortunately ended early due to storms. Before the game had stopped, Powhatan was leading 11-0. This game was REC night so all those who showed up in a jersey got in for free. On 4/17 they took on Midlothian at home and won 20-7.
This team has 4 people committed for the Class of 2025. Bevyn Nunnally, defensive player to Meredith, Caroline Camp midfield, Mercer, Erica Krauss, midfield, d1 Coastal Carolina, as well as Chloe Holt, also d1, committed to Longwood University.
Not only does this team do stuff together on the field, but also off of it. On March 16, Powhatan Girls Lacrosse hosted a community market at the High School. This consisted of vendors from all sorts of local businesses. On a practice before Easter, they also did a team egg dying contest. Awards were given out for best egg, most creative, and ugliest egg.
Girls Lacrosse has 7 games left in their regular season hoping to keep a winning record. If they continue to win, they will go on to Post Season with a chance to win the Region and maybe go onto the State Tournament.
